Ridley Township derives its name from Ridley, Cheshire, England, the home of early American settler John Simcock. Close to the Delaware River, the area saw a lot of troop movement and activity during the American Revolutionary War. Today the township encompasses a number of smaller regions, including the census designated places of Folsom and Woodlyn, as well as the unincorporated communities of Crum Lynne and Holmes. All share the same taxes, school district, library and police department.
